End of term Sharing of Work

Dear Drama Workshop Parents, Caregivers and Students,

Happy Easter!
It’s hard to believe how fast this year is travelling! We’ve been having great fun in class and are seeing some fantastic work from all our students. Confidence is growing and stage craft skills are developing. To show you what we mean, all parents and caregivers are invited to attend the last 15 minutes of class in the last week of term one (11-15 April) for a brief sharing of work and an overview of what is happening next term. We are looking forward to seeing you all then!

Performance Dates 2016

Please see below the performance dates for our 2016 classes. We know how busy the year gets so thought it might be a good idea to have these out nice and early so that everyone can place them in their calendars. Classes are identified by a unique name and to make it easier we’ve put the weekly class time at the top so that you can easily identify your child’s class. For your information, ‘call’ time means when the students are to arrive for their performance. Please note, the Producers and Ensemble classes will have Sunday rehearsals in term four and will finish earlier in the term than everyone else. All other classes finish in the week of Dec 12.

20 for $20! Tickets available for Shakespeare

Thank you to those people who attended the Shakespeare in the Park festival last weekend. The day was a great success and the play has received some fantastic feedback. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such talented people in Hawkes Bay from cast, production team to technical team – they are a joy to work with.

We are now looking forward to two performances of the play to be performed at the Opera House Plaza on 1 and 2 April. Tickets here.

We have 20 tickets to Much Ado About Nothing up for grabs for the Friday 1 April performance. The first twenty people to will receive an adult ticket at the reduced price of $20. This is a fantastic deal but is only open to parents/caregivers of Drama Workshop students to thank you for your continued support. All other tickets can be purchased here. Children’s tickets are just $10 and we strongly urge you to bring your children along (suitable for yr 4 up) for a taste of Shakespeare that will appeal to all.

HaBYT Fundraiser

The students of the Hawkes Bay Youth Theatre are raising funds for their trip to Brisbane in July this year. We have an amazing raffle prize up for grabs – $1000 worth of groceries from Hastings New World. Tickets are just $5. Please support these students in reaching their goal of raising $12,000 towards the cost of the trip. If your children are young, remember it may be you one year raising funds for a trip like this. Every ticket sold helps a little. If you would like to purchase a ticket or two please send the money in an envelope to class with your name and phone number. The teacher will send the tickets home with your child. Raffle ends 12 May.

We will also shortly be selling sweets from Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe – more information coming soon!

Bring a friend

The week of April 4-8 is Bring a Friend week! Is there someone you know who might like to join Drama? If you bring them along to class in the week of the 4th to 8th April and if they decide to join in term two, you will both get $10 off your term two fees. That’s a great offer! When referring friends, just send them to the website where they can find out more about us.

Drama New Zealand

Both Dan and Juliet will be presenting at the Drama New Zealand national conference in Wellington in April and are looking forward to sharing some of the work we have developed over the last couple of years. Dan will be presenting to secondary school teachers and Juliet to the primary sector. With Dan as an executive member of Drama NZ we are looking to roll out more workshops for teachers in Hawkes Bay on the use of drama in the classroom to primary school teachers. If you know of any teachers wanting to up-skill in this area please ask them to get in touch with Dan at:

Expressions of Interest – Napier classes

We are now taking expressions of interest from anyone wanting their children to attend after school classes in Napier. If you know of anyone who may be interested please ask them to get in touch at

Well that’s all from us, wishing you all a continued happy and relaxing Easter break.
